Oh. My. God.

We left the theater screaming “let us out!”  OK, just on the inside.  But please – spare us these psycho, neurotic post-40 women.  Audrey needs to join Catherine Banning’s support group.

Audrey Woods and Daniel Rafferty are both high-powered New York divorce attorneys that can’t stand each other. Or to be more precise, she can’t stand him, and he tolerates her. She is prim, uptight and by the book, and he is an aging bad boy that loves hard liquor and finds everything amusing, including both her and the law. When they wind up on opposite sides of a high-profile divorce case it is just a matter of time before he is upgraded from pesky thorn in her legal side to her own walking talking personal injury. Which is of course when the legal and personal sparks supposedly begin to fly.

We could not make a case for this couple. Daniel does have that scruffy-but-attractive cad thing going, we’ll give him that.  And Audrey is no slouch in the looks department either.  But is sex appeal enough to build a relationship on? Here are two supposedly successful attorneys that are just a mess when it comes to their private lives.  OK, we know there’s a lot of those out there.  But we have no patience for people that let that run over into their professional lives.  Or for post-40 women that treat their romance problems the same way they did in their 20′s – by sobbing on the couch in front of the tv while eating pints of Ben & Jerry’s.  Is there no such thing as personal growth in romantic comedies?

Maybe they’re actually perfect for each other – they’re certainly both a little out there – but we shudder to think of them together as time goes on. We don’t necessarily see him cheating on her, but he’ll do just enough drinking and flirting to keep her insecurity levels high. And it’s probably just a matter of time before she starts following her mother down Botox Lane. God help us if they reproduce. Surely there are laws against couples like this.
