Although the romance between Spock and Uhura takes less than 5 minutes of screen time we found it to be tremendous fun and couldn’t resist a quick TRT analysis of the couple:

It goes without saying that these two could not be more different; we just cannot see the passionate Uhura with the emotionless Spock, even for a fling. She feels everything and he feels nothing. Although after further pondering it started to dawn on us - how are they different from any other couple?

-When she’s upset over a fight with her best green girlfriend, he’ll have no reaction.
-When she has a lousy day on the Enterprise, he’ll have no reaction.
-When the kids are driving her crazy, he’ll have no reaction.
-When her mother dies, he’ll have no reaction.

Give him a remote and he’s just like every other guy we know.

We don’t really see her with Kirk either. Frankly none of these people look like the settling down type, at least not at the moment. We can see Uhura marrying eventually but we can more easily see her with the professional, sophisticated Captain Pike than with the hothead or the cold fish. Uhura will want and have no trouble finding someone rich and successful to live long and prosper with.

While my ability to critique couples in romantic movies may be slightly less applicable because those movies are generally geared towards women, when it comes to Sci-fi, you ladies have a lot to learn.

I gave Spock and Uhura 4 reels, and here are my reasons:

#1 – Spock is only HALF Vulcan, he is also half human, and even if he were all Vulcan, Vulcans DO have emotions, they just choose to suppress them because their early society was mired in wars and they found that logic was a better way to go. Spock can show emotion when he needs to, and if not, he can just fake it like all of us human men do.

#2 – Uhura is so damn hot that if she's going to pick a guy, he had better be capable of protecting her on a ship filled with horny Federation types. Vulcans are very strong, so Spock is best suited to prevent intergalactic sexual harassment and the occasional space ogle.

#3 – Women are impossible to figure out. Human men have been trying for millennia and we're still no better at reading their minds, but Spock can! A simple Vulcan mind-meld and Spock will immediately know whether Uhura wants him to just listen compassionately or actually try to solve her problems.

Spock and Uhura are practically the perfect couple. I could definitely see them living happily ever and starting a family. A small house, picket fence, 3 kids and a couple of pet tribbles.
